MLA Style

 MLA style follows a basic format when citing works. It is important however to check your work as different sources have specific requirements.

Book

The basic formula for citing a book is: Last Name, First Name. Title of Work. Publisher, Publication Date.

Example: Clemens, Colleen, and Rebecca Beardsall. Western Pennsylvania Reflections: Stories from the Alleghenies to Lake Erie. History Press, 2011.

Journal Article

The basic formula for citing a journal article is: Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Work, Volume, Issue, Year, pages.

Example: Winch, Julie. "Colonization and Its Discontents: Emancipation, Emigration, and Antislavery in Antebellum Pennsylvania." Journal of American History, vol. 99, no. 3, 2012, pp. 905.
