Changes to Library Operations and Facilities

IUP Libraries may look a little different, but we're still here to support you! Here's what to know at IUP Libraries During Coronavirus.

Fall 2021 Library Services

The IUP Libraries is committed to continuing to provide a range of services and collections to support the teaching, learning, and research mission of university students and employees while protecting the health and safety of the IUP community.

We are reopening most library services for in-person use. However, please note that some changes instituted over the last year, based on guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Pennsylvania Department of Health, remain in place until further notice.

Reference and Research Support

If you have a question about library collections, services, or resources, head to the Information Desk and let us know!

The staff at the Information Desk will help you with common questions about library services, the library building, and quick reference lookups for books and other materials. If your question requires more in-depth help (for example, if you need help finding multiple sources for a research paper), the Information Desk team will connect you with one of our faculty librarians for one-on-one help tailored to your research needs.

You can connect with the IUP Libraries research team in many ways:

  • Visit the Information Desk on the first floor of Stapleton Library to talk with one of our helpful staff
  • Send us a question using the Ask a Librarian service
  • Chat with a librarian using our Chat Reference service
  • Call the Information Desk at 724-357-2100
Day Information Desk Hours
Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
Friday 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Saturday Closed
Sunday 12:00 noon–8:00 p.m.

Instructional Support

If you're an instructor looking for information literacy tutorials, learning modules, and other tools to integrate into your summer courses, make sure to visit Distance Education Services for Faculty.

Online Library Services and Remote Support

Ask a Librarian

If you have a question or need help using an electronic resource, use this page to connect with a librarian or find self-guided materials to help you out. Library chat is available from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Fridays (check the lower right corner of the screen for a chat button!).

Additionally, librarians are available for online consultations via multiple methods - email, chat, and (where possible) the Zoom online meeting tool. Consult our Make an Appointment page to find out which librarian can best help you.

IUP Libraries Databases

Our extensive collection of research databases is available to IUP students, faculty, and staff from anywhere in the world. Select your database by subject, vendor, or content type. While off-campus, you will be asked to login through IUP's Single Sign-On service (using the same username and password you'd use to access MyIUP).

You may also use the IUP Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access our resources. Visit the Virtual Private Network page for instructions on setting up VPN access.

If you have trouble, make sure to contact us and we will work to solve the issue.

Research Guides

If you're looking for collected information and pointers to resources, subjects, and other information to consult as you work, we have a wealth of guides custom-made by subject librarians to help you!

Interlibrary Loan

Although we're reopening our services, online interlibrary loan service through ILLiad is still available. You can request articles through ILLiad (just remember that fulfillment of the request depends on other libraries' ability to lend materials; you will be notified if we cannot complete your request).

If you're not already registered to use ILLiad, follow the "First Time Users" link on the ILLiad Login page. Questions concerning interlibrary service can be directed to
