Public History Course Research Projects: IUP and Indiana Area History

This guide contains the research gathered and presented by students in IUP's public history courses. They cover a range of topics, but largely concern history local to the University and Indiana region.

Athletics Across the Decade

During this decade, several championship teams from different men’s intercollegiate team sports have emerged, including baseball, golf, cross country, and basketball, and swimming as well many all-American athletes. This Decade saw a big step forward for women involvement in sports, allowing men and women to compete alongside each other on the Rifle team. Furthermore, the number of women sports had increased from the beginning of the decade, from only four in 1970 to nine by 1979.
