Keenious: A Cutting-Edge Research Recommendation Tool: Welcome

Message from the AVP for University Libraries

Welcome IUP Faculty and Students!

I have created this LibGuide to help you acquire, use, and troubleshoot Keenious, a cutting-edge research recommendation tool that leverages search algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the text of a paper you've written for not only key words but meaning in order to recommend open source research articles and topics covered in papers that are similar to yours.

So much of what we've been hearing about AI lately in relationship to higher education is negative. Keenious uses AI in a positive, ingenious way--broadening searches for researchers who are conducting literature reviews. It brings new meaning to the phrase "exhaustive search."

Keenious retrieves the sources it recommends from OpenAlex, an open acess and open source catalog of over 200 million research articles. These articles reflect the future of academic publishing as more and more scholars are choosing to publish their research in open access journals or repositories for more visibility and impact as well as retention of copyright.

You will find everything you need to get started with Keenious in this LibGuide. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or comments related to your experience using Keenious. IUP Libraries welcomes your feedback!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kelly Heider, Acting Assistant Vice Provost for University Libraries
